Sheena is a multimedia visual artist and textile designer with more than ten years of experience in the fashion industry.
She grew up in Minnesota, traveling occasionally back to India with family where she first experienced daily life in saturated color. Those childhood visits sparked an ongoing obsession with travel, textiles, color, and pattern.
As an adult, Sheena has traveled to places such as Brazil, Indonesia, Vietnam, Peru, and Mexico, studying what she is most passionate about, and amassing an array of knowledge on indigenous textile techniques that she embeds in her design and ethos today.
Sheena is the founder of abacaxi: mindfully-made clothing inspired by travel, vibrant hues, and the infinite beauty of nature. Balancing bold color, handcrafted techniques, natural fibers, and an innovative play on traditional silhouettes, abacaxi is South Asian-American designer Sheena Sood’s wearable vision for an eclectic woman. Named after the Portuguese word for pineapple, abacaxi hybridizes tropical spirit with NYC energy.
